OBITUARY: Marie A. (Mainey) Murray, 83

WILMINGTON, MA — Marie A. (Mainey) Murray, age 83, a long-time resident of Wilmington, formerly of Charlestown, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2022.

Marie was born on May 31, 1938, in Boston, MA; she was the cherished daughter of the late Francis and Mildred (McKenna) Mainey. Marie was raised and educated in Charlestown; she was proud to be a “townie” and although she moved to Wilmington many years ago her heart was always with her Charlestown roots.

Marie married Jack Murray; the couple moved to Wilmington where they raised their family. Marie was a very devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother; she was always there to give a helping hand and support them any way she could. Marie made a wonderful home; her door was always open to family and friends. She was a great cook and an amazing baker; she was famous for her whoopie pies which were the hit at every event.

Marie adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she attended countless school concerts, sporting events, dance recitals, birthday parties, graduations or whatever they were involved in. She treasured the time spent with her family; they were her world.

For many years, Marie worked as a nurse’s aide at Lahey Clinic Hospital in Burlington; she treated everyone one of her patients and co-workers with the utmost care and was so kind towards everyone. Marie had such an endearing personality and everyone loved her.

In her spare time, Marie enjoyed reading, visiting family in Charlestown, shopping with her daughters, and spending time with family and friends. She loved traveling with her husband Jack and spending time in Florida where she enjoyed the beach.

Marie was a beautiful lady inside and out; she was so kind and thoughtful to everyone she met. Marie would go out of her way to help anyone in need; she will forever be loved and missed by all who knew her.

Marie was the beloved wife of Jack Murray, devoted mother of Donna Sullivan & her husband Dennis of Wilmington, John Murray of Wilmington, Pam Carroll & her late husband Bill of Chester, NH, Frank Murray & his wife Tricia of South Boston and the late Lisa Velozo & her late husband Joe. Loving “Nana” of Jaclyn & Mark Costello, Dennis & Leigh Sullivan, Nikki & Jared Melillo, Monique & Paul Horsman, the late Carl Giannelli, Christian & Jaymie Murray, Frank Murray, Michael Coles, Patrick Carroll, Lauren Carroll, Dermot Murray, Maeve Murray, Ronan Murray and great-grandchildren Cam, Averah, Aiden, Caroline, Brady, Frankie, Catherine, Liam, Harrison, Kaylee, Giovanni, Ryan, Nathan and Isla. Cherished daughter of the late Francis and Mildred Mainey, dear sister of Ann Mainey of Revere, Kathy McLaughlin and Paul Mainey & wife Jacqulyn all of Charlestown, the late Frank and Michael Mainey. Marie is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Thursday, March 24th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial for Marie will take place on Friday, March 25th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
