WILMINGTON, MA — Isabel (Carvalho) Silva, age 99, of Wilmington, formerly of Somerville and Cambridge, passed away peacefully at home on March 14, 2022.
Isabel was born in Cambridge, MA, on January 31, 1923; she was the dear daughter of the late Fransisco and Ezabel (Freitas) Carvalho. Isabel was raised in a large Portuguese family in Cambridge before moving with her family to Somerville where she was educated and was a graduate of Somerville High School.
Isabel was a talented musician as a young girl she sang and yodeled on the radio station wearing her “trademark” white cowgirl boots and performing under her stage name of Ginger. This nickname stayed with her through the years as she was fondly called “Gin” by her husband.
Throughout her life Isabel worked hard; for many years she worked in the manufacturing department at B. F. Goodrich Company in Watertown where she made PF Flyers sneakers.
Isabel married her “sweetheart” Edward Silva; the couple lived in Somerville for many years where they raised their family. In their early years, Isabel and Ed, loved to go to the “Supper Clubs” and out for a night of dancing; they were very elegant dancers. They also enjoyed camping and traveling to Disney World and New York with family and friends.
Isabel enjoyed the time she spent with her siblings, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her extended family. She looked forward to watching the Lawrence Welk Show, going to Bingo and her many birthday parties at Foxwoods.
Isabel will be fondly remembered as quite a lady; she was feisty, she was fun, and she lived life on her own terms. Isabel was hard working and devoted to her family; she had a huge heart and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Isabel was the beloved wife of the late Edward Silva, devoted mother of Patricia Agati, Janice Silva, and Janet Silva all of Wilmington, the late William Silva, and the late Edward Silva Jr. and his wife Anne Silva of Winthrop. “Grammie” of Kim Agati, Renee Quaglia, Heather Silva, Edward Silva, and the late Kelli Murray and her husband Joe, “Gigi” of Kayla McCluskey, Maryssa Murray, Jamie Murray, Jenna Murray, Madisyn Murray and Joey Murray.
