TOWN ELECTION UPDATE: Caira, Fennelly, Murphy & Samaha Pull Papers To Run For Re-Election

WILMINGTON, MA — According to the Wilmington Town Clerk’s Office, four incumbents have already pulled nomination papers to run for re-election in the upcoming town election.

Selectman Kevin Caira, Wilmington School Committee members Jesse Fennelly and Jay Samaha, and Housing Authority member Stacie Murphy have taken out nomination papers from the Town Clerk’s Office. Samaha has already returned his.

Fellow incumbents — Selectman Greg Bendel, Wilmington School Committee member Jo Newhouse and Shawsheen Tech School Committee member Robert Peterson Sr. — have yet to pull papers, but there is still more than a month left in the nomination papers period. Peterson is currently serving as Chair of the Tech’s Superintendent Search Committee.

Only one challenger has stepped forward thus far — Paul Sarnowski has pulled and returned nomination papers to run for the Board of Selectmen.

The following seats are up for grabs in this year’s election:

  • TWO three-year seats on the Wilmington Board of Selectmen (currently held by Greg Bendel and Kevin Caira)
  • THREE three-year seats on the Wilmington School Committee (currently held by Jo Newhouse, Jesse Fennelly, and Jason Samaha)
  • ONE three-year seat on the Shawsheen School Committee (currently held by Robert Peterson Sr.)
  • ONE five-year seat on the Wilmington Housing Authority (currently held by Stacie Murphy)

Nomination papers are available in the Wilmington Town Clerk’s Office. Papers, with at least 50 valid signatures from Wilmington voters, are due back to the Town Clerk by Friday, March 4, 2022.

The Town Clerk’s Office, located at Wilmington Town Hall, is open Monday through Friday, from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

The Annual Town Election will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022.  Polls will be open from 8am to 8pm.

The last day to register to vote for the Annual Town Election is Monday, April 4, 2022.
