Wilmington School Committee Discusses 2022-2023 School Calendar; School Year Would Start On Wednesday, August 31

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington School Committee recently conducted a first reading of the proposed 2022-2023 school district calendar.

“The general template of this calendar remains largely the same as our current calendar,” noted Superintendent Dr. Glenn Brand. “There’s really few things we can move around. Holidays are locked in. Contractual obligations that pertain to certain aspects of the calendar.”

“This calendar proposes to stay consistent with two professional days at the very beginning of the school year. That worked quite well this year to get our staff prepared and ready for the launch of our school year,” added Brand.

Schedule

The first day of school for Grades 1-12 is slated for Wednesday, August 31. Like last year, the first week of school will be abbreviated with students having full days on Wednesday, August 31 and Thursday, September 1. There will be no school on Friday, September 2. Teachers will have professional development days on Monday, August 29 and Tuesday, August 30. The first day of school for PreK & K is Tuesday, September 6.

The last day of school, if all 5 built-in snow days are used, is Thursday, June 22. If no snow days are used, the last day of school would be Wednesday, June 14. Monday, June 19 — Juneteenth — is a holiday.

There continues to be no school on the day before Thanksgiving and on Good Friday.

All schools will remain open on Election Days except the Wildwood and Boutwell Early Childhood Centers as they’re used for polling locations.

All Early Release CIT days and Early Release Professional Development Days purposely fall on Wednesdays to allow parents and guardians to better plan.

Each level’s Parent Teacher Conferences are purposely not held on the same day in case a family has children in more than one school.

The School Committee will vote to accept the calendar at its next meeting on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at 7pm.
