WILMINGTON, MA — Below are five takeaways from last week’s Wilmington Board of Selectmen Meeting:
#1) The Board of Selectmen heard a brief update from the Wilmington Police Department on their plans to commemorate the department’s 150th Anniversary this year. Sergeant Matt Stavro read a timeline of key milestones in the department’s history. Police Chief Joe Desmond noted that Department Historian Paul Chalifour is writing articles about WPD’s history that will be periodically published on the department’s website and shared via its social media. Desmond and Stavro also recognized Ashley Perssico for designing the WPD’s 150th anniversary commemorative patch that officers will wear this year.
#2) The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved the request of the Wilmington Farmers Market Association to hold its Summer 2022 season — from June 12, 2022 through October 2, 2022 — on Sundays, from 10am to 1pm — on the Swain Green. The market scheduled for Sunday, July 3, 2022 will take place at the Yentile Farm Recreational Facility as to not interfere with the Fun on the Fourth Celebration.
#3) The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved the request of the Wilmington Community Fund to hold its Community Shredding Event on Saturday, September 24, 2022, from 9am to noon, in the Municipal Parking Lot.
#4) The Board of Selectmen unanimously ratified the appointment of Joseph Jackson to the Wilmington Historical Commission to fill a term expiring on April 30, 2022.
#5) The Board of Selectmen received a service report from Minuteman Senior Services, which provided services to 949 Wilmington residents during the past fiscal year. Of note, 379 residents were given referrals and information from resource specialists; 171 residents were provided with care management and in-home care; 141 residents received SHINE Health Benefits Assistance; and 108 residents participated in the Meals On Wheels program.
