WILMINGTON, MA — Henry P. DeSimone, age 89, of Wilmington, MA, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2021.
Henry was born on April 6, 1932, in East Boston, the youngest of eight brothers and sisters, but the first to be born in a hospital. Henry loved his family, his dog Fluff, and baseball, especially the Red Sox. He graduated from East Boston High, and sometime soon after enlisted in the Air Force. As a meteorologist stationed in Germany during the Korean War, he took advantage of his location to pursue his love of travel & history.
When Henry returned home, he earned an engineering degree from Northeastern, which paired with his interest of space, and space exploration. While at American Science & Engineering, he helped work on the Apollos, then leading his teams on The Viking, Challengers, Hubble and others, while working with Honeywell, JPL & Loral.
He lived for 35 years in Reading, MA, where he raised his family, in a house that he built alongside his brothers & in-laws. Henry taught himself how to repair antique clocks as a hobby, which he continued in retirement on Cape Cod, starting It’s About Time Clock Repair. He, and his wife, Edna, renovated an old house in Chatham, traveled, & enjoyed gourmet food & wine. Henry loved watching the Sox finally win not one, but several World Series, loved attending Cape Cod Baseball League games, but most of all, he loved his family.
Henry was the beloved husband of Edna M. (McCarty). Loving father of Carolyn & her husband Lawrence Walcott of Bedford, NH, Randy of Colman, SD, Michelle Cirrone & her husband John of Dunstable, MA, George Boudreau & his wife Anne of Wilmington, MA and Lynne Ryan & her husband Mark of Medford, MA. Grandfather to Savannah, Sierra, Zachery, Derek, Amy, Frank, George & Jerene, Jack, Courtney and Cameron. Great-grandfather to Rachel, Brantley, Bodhi, Carter and Noah. Dear brother-in-law of Ed & Ellen McCarty and Elaine McCarty. Henry is further survived by his many nieces and nephews.
Henry was pre-deceased by his parents Maryjane (Godfrey) and Joseph DeSimone, and siblings Florence Farrell of CT, Louise “Millie” Caruso, Helen Grasso, Frank, John, Joseph and Louis DeSimone, all of MA.
At Henry’s request his Services will be private.
