OBITUARY: Leonard J. “Lenny” Coffill, 74

WILMINGTON, MA — Leonard J. “Lenny” Coffill, age 74, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on October 31st, 2021. Born in Peabody on February 24th, 1947, Leonard was the son of Joseph and Phyllis Coffill. He was raised in Cambridge and a graduate of Cambridge Rindge Tech, class of 1965.

Following his graduation from high school, Lenny joined the United States Air Force. He worked as an airplane mechanic while serving his time in Vietnam during the war. He was extremely proud of his service to our country and was honorably discharged in September of 1969.

Upon his return home, Lenny was employed by Polaroid in Waltham where he would spend nearly half his life working until their closing. After Polaroid closed, Lenny became an HVAC mechanic at Nova BioMedical. He loved his job in the HVAC field and spent the next 20 years at the same company.

Lenny’s favorite place was the ocean, he would spend two days a week at the beach. Each Monday and Friday, he would travel to either Seabrook or Salisbury Beach just to hang out by the water.

The most important thing to Lenny was his family though. He was the proud and loving father to his only child, Heather. He loved being around his siblings, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Lenny loved spend time with all of them, especially family get togethers. His favorite times were Sunday pool days at his sister Gail’s house.

Lenny was the beloved father of Heather Coffill of Wilmington. He was the son of the late Joseph Coffill and Phyllis (Hinkley) Alphen. Lenny was the dear brother of Robert Coffill & his wife Caryl of Somerville, Evelyn Des Champs & her late husband Raymond of Tewksbury, Gail Robbins & her husband Kenneth of Wilmington, Ronald Alphen & his wife Cynthia of Tennessee, Brenda Flemming & her husband Larry of Lowell, the late Gloria O’Brien and Sharon Leverone, survived by her husband Robert Leverone of Wilmington. He was the uncle of William Coffill, Wendy Coffill, Laurie Burton, Michelle Walsh, Judith Johnson, Sean O’Brien, Timothy O’Brien, Donald Robbins, Laura Murray, Robert Leverone, Michael Leverone, Kristina Leverone, Victoria Alphen, Paul Brunelle and Rebecca Brunelle. Lenny was the great-uncle of Erin Walsh, Evan Walsh, Sarah Johnson, Brandon Johnson, Tyler O’Brien, Tyler Robbins, Alex Robbins, Ryan Murray, Erin Murray, Lincoln Leverone, Holden Leverone, Benjamin Brunelle, Chloe Brunelle and Leo Medeiros. Lenny is also survived by many friends.

A celebration of life for Leonard will be held at a later date.
