WILMINGTON, MA — Below are 5 things to know in Wilmington on Thursday, September 9, 2021:
#1) LIBRARY EVENT: Outdoor Baby Time
This 9:30am storytime includes books, rhymes, music and movement. Registration is for the six-week session. In the event of inclement weather, or temperatures under 55° or above 85°, storytime will move INDOORS. (Age 0-23 months). Masks are required for ages 2-12 per the Wilmington Board of Health. #2) LIBRARY EVENT: Indoor Lego Building
At 4pm, build with LEGOs at the same time as other LEGO fans outside the library. At the end, you can share what you made during the time. Ages 5+. Masks are required for ages 2-12. Register HERE.
#3) LIBRARY EVENT: Virtual Cooking Demonstration with Chef Bill
Chef Bill will offer a virtual demonstration at 7pm of his Chicken Marsala recipe, which he keeps flavorful and light with an unconventional seasonal ingredient (pumpkin!). He will also teach us to prepare two sides featuring fall vegetables: roasted red potatoes with rosemary and roasted broccoli. Register HERE.
Chef Bill Collins is a graduate of the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts. After graduating, he cooked at the old Ritz-Carlton in Boston, and then worked at Harbor Sweets, the handmade chocolate company, in Salem, MA. He started his personal chef business in September 2001, and is the author of four cookbooks, from Storey Publishing: Knife Skills, Making and Using Vinegar, How to Make Chocolate Candy, and Making Caramels. From 2012-2017, he appeared weekly on Mass Appeal, a daily lifestyle show at 11:00 am, on NBC channel 22 in Springfield. Chef Bill, in addition to being a personal chef, teaches people how to cook. He does this in Zoom events, and in private homes, at parties, and at team-building events for companies. He also consults with food businesses on recipe and menu creation. He’s currently also providing free Zoom cooking classes every Wednesday and Friday at 5:00 EDT.
#4) Register For Wilmington Farmers Market’s Cornhole Tournament Later This Month
Please join us at the Wilmington Farmers Market on Sunday, September 19, 2021 on the Swain Green for a family fun day of cornhole! 24 teams! Double elimination brackets! Cash prizes for top 3 teams!
The tournament is open for online pre-registration (as space allows), and day of team and individual player registration. There is enough space for up to 24 teams. This is a blind draw, double-elimination (you have to lose twice to be eliminated) tournament, following the rules of the American Cornhole Association.
Funds generated from the tournament will benefit the operation of the Wilmington Farmers Market 2022 season and beyond.
Teams and individual players will need to arrive between 9:30 and 10:00 am for a 10:15 am tournament start. The Tournament will be completed by 1:00 pm at the close of the Market.
Team and Individual registration is now open online HERE. Individuals will be paired with one another on or before event day. Teams are $40 each, individuals are $20 each. Payment can be made online in advance with a credit card, or the morning of the tournament by cash or check.
#5) Sign Up For The Veterans End Of Summer BBQ Later This Month
Wilmington veterans and their families are invited to a free End of Summer BBQ on Friday, September 17, 2021 at noon at the Wilmington Knights of Columbus Hall (112 Middlesex Avenue).
Space is limited and reservations are required. Call the Wilmington Department of Veterans Services at 978-694-2020 to reserve your spot.
