Below is an announcement from Wilmington Community Television’s “Book Stew:”
WILMINGTON, MA — Hello Book Stew viewers and listeners! I received a copy of L. Annette Binder’s novel The Vanishing Sky from her publisher and, as per my routine, I skipped reading the inside flap, blurbs, and reviews so that I could experience the book without other influences.
Annette’s father was conscripted into the Hitler Youth when he was eleven. Her family emigrated to Colorado when she was young, and they never spoke about the war or about life in Germany under the Nazis. Annette did a massive amount of research and merged it with fictionalized versions of her father and his family in 1945. The novel is both touching and horrifying, and so beautifully told. Please watch or listen, and, as usual, I welcome your opinions and feedback.
Eileen MacDougall is the host of the 85+ episodes of Book Stew, a 30 minute video and podcast devoted to writing in all forms, featuring authors, playwrights, voice artists, poets, and journalists.
