WILMINGTON, MA — At this week’s Wilmington School Committee Meeting, Superintendent Dr. Glenn Brand announced the hiring of Athanasia “Soula” Bousios as the district’s new Special Education Coordinator.
“Ms. Bousios has worked in various roles related to Special Education for the past 17 years,” wrote Brand in a memo to Committee members. “She began her career as a clinician in a private practice before moving into the role of social worker with the Chelsea Public Schools at the William A. Berkowitz Elementary School in 2004. In 2008 Ms. Bousios joined the Lowell Public Schools where she began as a Special Education Social Worker before transitioning to the role of Evaluation Team Chairperson for both in-district and out-of-district programs. Most recently, Ms. Bousios served as a Special Education Administrator with the Methuen Public Schools.”
Brand noted the selection process included community forums and staff forums; reference checks; and individual interviews with himself and the Student Support Services Director.
“The feedback gathered throughout the search process identified Ms. Bousois as someone who possesses many positive traits and strengths that I believe are critical to this leadership role,” added Brand. “Ms. Bousis was described as someone who is committed to relationship building, remarkably knowledgeable about Special Education in general and as someone fair minded, well organized, and an exceptionally hard worker.”
Bousios — who received both her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Master’s of Social Work degree from Boston University — started with the district on July 12, 2021.
