WILMINGTON, MA — Paul J. Agostino, age 79, of Wilmington, formerly of Medford, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2021.
Paul was born on January 5, 1942, in Stoneham, MA. He was the son of the late Vincent and Rita (Endicott) Agostino. Paul was raised and educated in Medford, MA and a graduate of Medford High School.
He enlisted in the United States Army on February 6, 1959; he served as an MP throughout his time in the military, guarding atomic weapons in Germany as well as throughout the United States. Paul was honorably discharged in July of 1962 and went on to serve in the Army Reserves until February of 1965.
Following his discharge, he came home to Medford. He worked as a truck driver and then started a career in construction, eventually rising to superintendent on major building projects in Boston including the Prudential Center and the John Hancock tower. In the 1970s he returned to policing as a police officer for the town of Stoneham where he served until being injured in the line of duty. After recovering, he started his own construction company and worked until retiring in 2012.
Paul enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, going out to eat, and volunteering. He was very giving of his time and talents to various charities. He was an active Mason and Shriner, and was constantly helping in his community, as well as with children in need. Paul also volunteered with several Veterans Organizations. He was a staple in the Wilmington Veteran Services Office, where he would offer a ride to any Veteran who needed to get to a VA Doctor appointment and always offered friendly advice to a Veteran in a crisis. He will be remembered as kind, caring and very generous, always there to lend a hand to his family, friends, neighbors, and his community. He will forever be in the hearts of those he loved.
Paul was the beloved husband of Marsha (Metcalf) Agostino, devoted father of Wayne Agostino and his wife Amy, the late Kevin Agostino, and Sharon Agostino; step-dad of Brian Oxman and his wife Sarah, Tina Ramsdell and her husband Ken, and Lisa Botte and her husband Jeff.
Loving “Papa” of Emily, Michael, Angela, Samantha, Amanda, Chad, Marina, Jared, Jake, Mason, Addison and Danilsa. Brother of Janet Polcaro and her husband Robert and Robert Agostino and his wife Kathy. He is further survived by his former wife and friend Mary Elhefnawy, as well as nieces, nephews, and friends.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a memorial gathering at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Saturday, October 16th. Visiting Hours will be from 1:00-3:00 pm, and the memorial will conclude with Military Honors.
