WILMINGTON, MA — Below are 5 things to know in Wilmington on Friday, June 4, 2021:
#1) Town Hall Looking For Photos Of Around Town
Below is a message from Wilmington Town Hall: Amateur photographer? Just enjoy taking pictures? If you have any pictures of the Wilmington landscape or any of our events, we are always looking for pictures to include in our calendars and other publications. Pictures can be submitted to our manager’s office at email@example.com.
#2) Registration Now Open For 2021 Wilmington Relay For Life
Relay for Life of Wilmington-Billerica-Tewksbury will be held at Wilmington High School in Wilmington MA on June 18th from 5:30 pm until 11:30 pm. COVD-19 precautions will be in place. Maximum capacity this year is 250, so people are encouraged to register early.
“I am happy to report we do have the approval of the Wilmington Board of Health to bring Relay for Life back this year,” says Joe Martiniello, Event Chair. “Relay will certainly be different in 2021 to accommodate for new safety guidelines, but we are thrilled to bring the community together in person to celebrate lives, remember those that have passed, and fundraise for an organization that provides resources and research.”
The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life came to Wilmington in 2009. The event provides people with a unique opportunity to come together and share in the message of hope.
As in the past, the Relay begins with a special Opening Ceremony which focuses on survivorship. Activities and fun continue throughout the evening. There will still also be a very beautiful and poignant Luminaria Ceremony. One major change is that this is not a camp-overnight event. The closing Spirit of Relay piece will be held at approximately 11 pm to conclude by the scheduled 1130 pm departure.
Some of the usual activities have been deleted for COVID safety reasons, but others continue. For example, the Theme Laps can be a socially distanced safe outdoor walk so they continue. What’s more, new creative entertainment has been added such as a Scavenger Selfie Hunt.
The committee has room for more volunteers. Positions are available for both helping with planning and to help for just that evening.
Since the capacity is limited, it must be controlled. Therefore, everyone must register as part of the Relay. There are no visitors allowed. Registration is due no later than June 11. Go to http://www.relayforlife.org/wilmingtonma for more information and to register. Volunteers should email firstname.lastname@example.org.
