#2) Library Event: Green Chemistry with John C. Warner
The Wilmington Memorial Library is hosting John C. Warner, the co-founder of Green Chemistry, at 7pm via Zoom. The natural world is a beautiful and intricate system of intertwined and overlapping material ecosystems. One important reason why these naturally interdependent cyclic systems exist is because of the very fact that they all co-emerged over hundreds of thousands of years in the presence of one another. Evolutionary forces drove symbiotic relationships by selecting for and against mechanisms and materials that were conducive to the success of the entire multi-component matrix. As human society seeks to create a circular economy, where waste is reduced to a minimum and materials are used as long as possible, we have the added challenge that industries have developed independently, essentially unaware of adjacent processes and will continue to exist disconnected and unsustainable over the long run. The pathway to create sustainable technological ecosystems will require the inventive application of green chemistry (the molecular level mechanistic underpinnings of sustainability). Register HERE.
#3) Library Event: Virtual Lego Club
The Wilmington Memorial Library is holding a meeting of its Lego Club at 4pm via Zoom. Build LEGOs (or whatever building materials you have at your house) at the same time as other LEGO fans online. At the end, you can share what you made during the time, and show one other item that you may have already built at home. Ages 5+. Register HERE.
#4) Library Event: Outdoor Baby Time
The Wilmington Memorial Library is holding an outdoor baby time at 10am. This program of songs, rhymes, games and picture books is for babies under the age of two years and their caregivers. We will be taking this program OUTDOORS to the grassy area behind the library and to the right of the Peggy Kane seating area. Mats will be set up socially distanced for families to sit on. Please come prepared for wet ground; blankets and boots are recommended! Register HERE.
#5) Forest Street Closure Today
The Tree Division will be removing a town tree near 63 Forest Street. As a result of setting up equipment in the street to perform this work, Forest Street will be closed between Burlington Ave and Swain Road from approximately 9am to 1pm.
