LETTER: Former Selectman Mike Champoux Endorses Melissa Plowman For School Committee

To my friends, neighbors and fellow residents of Wilmington.

As someone who has been very close to our town’s operations and government, I have found myself empathizing with the members of the Wilmington School district, staff and School Committee over the past year.   The unprecedented pandemic circumstances have certainly thrown an appreciable amount of challenges across their desks as they all work to determine the best scenario for safely educating our town’s young people.

We now find ourselves in the midst of election season with a number of candidates on the ballot for the office of School Committee member.   I respect and admire all candidates willing to volunteer their time and talents for our community.  For one seat, there are a number of candidates on the ballot.  In this case, I have come to the conclusion that Melissa Plowman is the best person for the job.  I will not restate all of Melissa’s impressive achievements and professional qualifications, of which there are many.   I would direct you, instead to her campaign facebook page to learn more about her.

Above and beyond Melissa’s impressive resume, is her personal demeanor and approach.  In my conversations with her, she has shown herself to be intelligent, and passionate about education and the opportunity to be a part of our School Committee for its continuous improvement.   Melissa possesses the important quality of seeking professional collaboration toward common goals.  And, when there are differences of opinions of what those goals are, Melissa’s professionalism will allow her to be adamant and strong in her convictions while not engaging in confrontation.  To me, in these times, I think these qualities, while ideal for the role of School Committee Member, are also a great example of leadership for our children to witness and follow.

Please join me in supporting Melissa Plowman for School Committee on Saturday, April 24.

Thank you,

Michael Champoux
