VIDEO: Watch Wilmington School Committee Candidates Debate The Issues

WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington Community Television held a School Committee Candidates Forum on Thursday, April 1, which aired live on Friday, April 2.

Town Moderator Rob Peterson asked all the candidates six questions submitted by reporters from the Wilmington Apple and Wilmington Town Crier. Several topics were covered, including Superintendent Brand’s job performance, MCAS during COVID-19, the need for a new elementary school, changes to the school calendar, and accomplishments each candidates hope to achieve beyond a full safe return to in-person learning. Each candidate also gave brief opening and closing remarks.

The first forum consisted of the three candidates running for two 3-year seats — incumbent MJ Byrnes, incumbent David Ragsdale, and challenger Jim DeFeo.

The second forum consisted of the three candidates running for the one 2-year seat — Justin Cusce, Yvonne Helbert, and Melissa Plowman.

The Town Election takes place on Saturday, April 24, 2021, from 8am to 8pm, at regular polling locations.
