Wilmington To Hold Candlelight Vigil To Honor Residents Who Passed During COVID-19 Pandemic On May 13

WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington residents who have passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic will be honored at a “Celebration of Life, Community of Hope” Candlelight Vigil on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 7pm.

The event, organized by the Wilmington Senior Center, will take place on the Wilmington Town Common.

“Over the past year, the Department of Elderly Services has witnessed families, friends and residents mourn their loved ones without being able to have the physical support and comfort of others,” Director Terri Marciello said. “The Department has spoken to residents and clergy regarding this issue. They, too, share the need to bring everyone together as a collaboration of hope.”

“This past year has been beyond difficult for everyone, especially our older adults,” added Marciello. “As we come up on the one-year anniversary of this pandemic, we have had some time to reflect. We now realize just how many residents we’ve lost over this last year.”

Wilmington Selectmen unanimously approved the request use the Town Common to hold this event at their most recent board meeting.
