Dear Wilmington Residents,
We are writing to you as lifelong residents of Wilmington and as business owners here in town. We would like to express our support of our very good friend, Melissa Plowman, for the Wilmington School Committee. We met Melissa and her family eight years ago when our daughters began kindergarten and then realized they were attending the same dance studio. Melissa and her husband Nate are such great people! We instantly clicked and became fast friends!
As many people now know, Melissa has been working for over a decade in the field of child development. She has much knowledge on the importance of social-emotional awareness in schools and she has been a consultant for many schools on the North Shore. We know she has extensive experience training school staff and providing professional development opportunities for educators; but we can speak to her knowledge of the school space personally as Melissa has helped us to navigate the IEP process for our own children. She has broadened our understanding of both when and how to advocate for our children and we are so grateful for that. Additionally, as the owner of a small private practice, she will bring many years of business decision-making experience to the seat, which we know will help her contribute to the work that a school committee does.
Beyond her professional experiences, we believe Melissa is the right person for our town’s school committee because she values assertive, yet respectful, communication. While Melissa is passionate about the mental health of our children and youth, and she is a strong advocate for these things, she always conducts herself with a high degree of professionalism, and has the ability to work collaboratively, even if she may not agree with your exact perspective. These qualities are things that we value in those that are in a leadership role in our town and therefore it is very important to us that Melissa gets your vote.
This past year has been incredibly difficult on students and teachers, and we feel very deeply that Melissa can add extreme value to the school committee with her background and experience. This year, more than ever, we need to take into consideration the mental health of our children and their educators! We encourage you to get to know Melissa and all that she stands for! Like her Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/MelissaPlowmanforWilmingtonSchoolCommittee and please join us in voting for Melissa Plowman on April 24th!!! Thank you for your time and support!
