WILMINGTON, MA — Below are 5 things to know in Wilmington on Friday, February 12, 2021:
#1) Ribbon Cutting Ceremony For New Salem Five Bank On Main Street Set
he Wilmington-Tewksbury Chamber of Commerce is holding a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new Salem Five Bank branch, located at 281 Main Street, on Friday, February 12, 2021 at 11am.
The branch, managed by Mark Iannuccillo, offers The Open Account, Business Forward Checking, and Merchant Services.
#2) Library Event: Book Buddies
This fun literacy program pairs kids with teen volunteers for one-on-one reading fun in Zoom Breakout Rooms. In this three-week program, kids can practice reading or be read to, receive one-on-one attention from a trained teen, share a snack, and do a fun activity. Ages 5-7.
Interested teen volunteers are asked to fill out Teen Book Buddies Application.
#3) Nomination Papers Available To Run For Public Office In Wilmington
Interested in running for an elected office in Wilmington this year?
Nomination papers are now available in the Wilmington Town Clerk’s Office. Contact the Town Clerk’s Office at 978-658-2030 to arrange pickup.
The following seats will be up for grabs in this year’s election:
- ONE three-year seat on the Wilmington Board of Selectmen (currently held by Chairman Jonathan Eaton)
- TWO three-year seats on the Wilmington School Committee (currently held by David Ragsdale & MJ Byrnes)
- ONE three-year seat on the Shawsheen Tech School Committee (currently held by Jim Gillis)
- ONE three-year Wilmington Town Moderator position (currently held by Robert Peterson Jr., who has announced he is NOT seeking re-election)
- ONE five-year seat on the Wilmington Housing Authority (currently held by Chairman John Alefantis)
Papers with at least 50 valid signatures from Wilmington voters are due back to the Town Clerk by Friday, March 5, 2021.
The Annual Town Election will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021. Polls will be open from 8am to 8pm.
The last day to register to vote for the Annual Town Election is Monday, April 5, 2021.
#4) Return Your Town Census If You Haven’t Already
Wilmington’s Annual Town Census will be mailed in the middle of January 2021. Please keep an eye open for it and respond immediately. Remember, responding to the annual town census keeps your name on the active voting list. Please contact the Town Clerk’s office if you have not received your census by the last week in January.
#5) Get Your 2021 Dog Tag If You Haven’t Already
Wilmington’s 2021 dog tags are now available.
Reminders have been sent out to currently registered dog owners by email if there is one on record, and mail if not. Owners must have an updated rabies certificates to complete the initial registration or renewal.
New registrations or renewals can be accomplished online HERE or by mail. The cost is $10 if your dog is spayed or neutered, or $15 if intact. The deadline for renewal is April 1, 2021, after which a $15 late fee will be assessed in addition to the registration fee. A $50 civil fine will be added to these amounts if renewals have not been completed by June 1, 2021.
