5 Things To Know In Wilmington On Saturday, February 6, 2021

WILMINGTON, MA — Below are 5 things to know in Wilmington on Saturday, February 6, 2021:

#1) WHS Boys Hockey Team Collection Donations To Support Local Heroes

The Wilmington Wildcats Varsity Boys Hockey team is holding its annual Local Heroes game on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 12:30pm at Ristuccia Arena.

While no spectators are allowed in the arena, the team will have a bin outside of the rink, 30 minutes prior to the start of the game through the end of the game, to collect wish list items (see flyer below) and monetary donations for Wilmington’s Local Heroes organization.

Monetary donations can also be made electronically to @WHSFaceoffClub21 on Venmo and at paypal.me/whsfaceoffclub.

#2) Library Event: Fiction Critique Group

The Wilmington Memorial Library’s monthly Fiction Critique Group meets at 9:15am. Love writing fiction? Whether you are drafting a short story or a novel, joining our Critique Group is a great opportunity to meet other writers and get constructive feedback in a supportive environment. Open to all experience levels writing in all genres. Led by local writing enthusiast, Barbara Alevras. If you are interested in attending this event, please email Assistant Director Charlotte Wood at cwood@wilmlibrary.org.  Please include the title of the program in the subject heading.  This event will be held over Zoom.  You will receive an invite from the presenter prior to the program date.

#3) Wilmington High’s Winter Sports Season Continues

The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, January 16, 2021:

  • 7am — WHS Boys JV Hockey @ Wakefield (Stoneham Arena)
  • 9am — WHS Boys Varsity Basketball @ Wakefield (Wakefield High School)
  • 9am — WHS Girls Freshmen Basketball vs. Wakefield (Wilmington High School)
  • 11am — WHS Boys JV Basketball @ Wakefield (Wakefield High School)
  • 11am — WHS Girls JV Basketball vs. Wakefield (Wilmington High School)
  • 1pm — WHS Boys Freshmen Basketball @ Wakefield (Wakefield High School)
  • 1pm — WHS Girls Freshmen Basketball vs. Wakefield (Wilmington High School)

#4) REMINDER: Shawsheen Tech Culinary Arts Students Offer Meals For Curbside Pickup, Tuesday-Friday

Shawsheen Tech Culinary Arts Students are offering touch-less, curb-side pick up for lunches, available Tuesday through Friday at 11:30am.

Please call 978-671-3668 by 9:30am for the menu. The menu for the week will be available on Tuesday morning.

Also available are a complete line of frozen dinners, soups and stews. With enough notice, a full line of bakery products are available as well as cakes for any occasion.

Your order will be filled and waiting for you to pick it up in front of the Ram’s Head Guest Dining Room. You will not have to even have to get out of your car.

At this time, the program can only accept cash and checks made out to Shawsheen Tech Culinary Department.

#5) WEF Is Always Looking For Your Unwanted Clothes, Shoes, Stuffed Animals & More

The Wilmington Educational Foundation has partnered with Baystate Textiles to raise funds through an ongoing textile recycling rebate program.

Bag up any of your unwanted footwear, clothing, accessories, linens and stuffed animals and place them in the donation boxes located outside each of Wilmington’s public schools. Donations can be in any condition as long as they’re clean and dry.

The Wilmington Educational Foundation will receive a rebate of $100 for every ton of textiles collected.  WEF earns thousands of dollars each year from this fundraiser.
