WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington School Committee met on Wednesday, January 20, 2021. While the meeting was dominated by the Superintendent’s FY22 budget presentation and the Committee’s decision to allow high school sports to resume, here is what you may have missed:
- Registration for children entering Kindergarten and Preschool in the fall of 2021 will take place from March 29, 2021 through April 7, 20201. Visit the district’s website to access the registration documents. If your child reaches the age of five on or before August 31, 2021, your child should register for Kindergarten. If your child reaches age of six on or before August 31, 2021, your child should register for First Grade.
- Sonny’s Mobil on the Run, owned by the Santini family, recently donated $500 to the Woburn Elementary School through the Global Partners Exxon Mobil Education Alliance Grant Program. The School Committee unanimously accepted the grant, which will be used for STEM curriculum.
- The School Committee updated its School Committee policies on Home Schooling. Among the language changes, home school students may NOT attend public school on a part-time basis; home school students may have access to the district’s extracurricular activities but only with the Superintendent’s approval; and the district does not need to provide a high school diploma to a home school student.
- The School Committee reviewed the district’s FY21 mid-year financial report. Per the recommendation of Assistant Superintendent Paul Ruggiero, the Committee moved budgeted funds from the Salary Adjustment Line to the proper line items to account for lane changes and contractual salary increases. The Committee also voted to distribute the Circuit Breaker Offset to the appropriate Special Education Tuition Lines. There were no questions on the financial report.
The Wilmington School Committee next meets on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 7pm via Zoom.
