WILMINGTON, MA — Below are 5 things to know in Wilmington on Friday, January 15, 2021:

#1) Butters Row Bridge Closed TODAY

Please be advised that the Butters Row Bridge is temporarily closed on Wednesday, January 13, 2021; Thursday, January 14, 2021; and Friday, January 15, 2021, from 7:30am to 3pm.

Butters Row will be open (from Chestnut Street) for area residents only.

The purpose of the daytime closure is to allow for exploratory borings to be drilled on each side of the bridge for the bridge replacement design.

Questions regarding this temporary road closure should be directed to the Town’s Engineering Division at 978-658-4499.

#2) Wilmington Health Director Seeks Nurses To Administer COVID-19 Vaccine  

Wilmington Health Director Shelly Newhouse is looking for VOLUNTEER licensed nurses to administer Covid vaccine at future clinics. Please email boh@wilmingtonma.gov. This will be for the next few months.

#3) RMLD Encourages Customers To Donate Massachusetts Good Neighbor Energy Fund’s 2021 “Give The Gift Of Warmth” Campaign 

The Massachusetts Good Neighbor Energy Fund’s (GNEF) 2021 “Give the Gift of Warmth” campaign is now underway with the goal of raising $500,000 to provide energy assistance to more than 1,500 households in need throughout the Commonwealth. The Fund helps families in temporary crisis who do not qualify for federal or state assistance with the payment of their energy expenses.

Reading Municipal Light Department (RMLD) customers who wish to support the Fund can “Give the Gift of Warmth” by using the green-colored Good Neighbor Energy Fund donation envelope found as an insert in their January electric bill. Customers can also donate online by visiting www.magoodneighbor.org, or by mailing a check payable to “Good Neighbor Energy Fund” to the Good Neighbor Energy Fund, c/o The Salvation Army, 25 Shawmut Road, Canton, Massachusetts 02021-1408.

Those in need of assistance can apply to the Fund by visiting a local Salvation Army Corps Community Center or by calling 800-334-3047. This campaign year’s Fund disbursement is $300 per eligible household per heating season. Household gross income must fall between 60 and 80 percent of the state’s median income levels to qualify. The Salvation Army, which administers the Fund, pays the energy provider directly.

The Massachusetts Good Neighbor Energy Fund is often the last resort for families who do not qualify for federal and state assistance programs. The GNEF has raised more than $22.5 million and assisted over 91,250 households in need since its inception in 1985.

#4) Fill Out & Return Your Town Census Once You Receive It

Wilmington’s Annual Town Census will be mailed in the middle of January 2021. Please keep an eye open for it and respond immediately. Remember, responding to the annual town census keeps your name on the active voting list. Please contact the Town Clerk’s office if you have not received your census by the last week in January.

#5) Get Your 2021 Dog Tag

Wilmington’s 2021 dog tags are now available.

Reminders have been sent out to currently registered dog owners by email if there is one on record, and mail if not. Owners must have an updated rabies certificates to complete the initial registration or renewal.

New registrations or renewals can be accomplished online HERE or by mail. The cost is $10 if your dog is spayed or neutered, or $15 if intact. The deadline for renewal is April 1, 2021, after which a $15 late fee will be assessed in addition to the registration fee. A $50 civil fine will be added to these amounts if renewals have not been completed by June 1, 2021.
