OBITUARY: John N. “Jack” Mosson, 88

TEWKSBURY, MA —  John N. “Jack” Mosson, age 88, a former longtime Tewksbury resident, recently of North Reading, passed at home on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.

He was the beloved husband of 59 years to Shirley A. (Dyer) Mosson, who passed away on February 2, 2012.

Born in Tewksbury on January 12, 1932, he was the son of the late John N. Mosson and the late Alice (Hamilton) (Mosson) Hansell.

Jack was raised in Stoneham, and graduated from Stoneham High School in 1949. He continued his education at Northeastern University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.

In 1950, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War era with the 915th Airedale Fleet Aircraft Service Squadron.

Prior to his retirement in 1990, he was employed for 18 years by the AVCO-Textron Company in Wilmington.

Jack previously worked for ITEK Corporation on the development of the camera system used to map the Moon on the Apollo 15, 16, and 17 missions, then Barry Controls Company as a Program Manager on the Bell Helicopter Program., and as a Contractor at the Hanscom Air Force Base supporting the Air Force Joint Tactical Information Systems (JTIDS) Program.

During his retirement, he worked part time for Odyssey Systems Consulting Group in Wakefield.

He was a member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Post # 2070.

Jack enjoyed gardening, visiting casinos, and traveling with his wife throughout the United States.

He is survived by three children, Linda J. Mosson of Tewksbury, John N. Mosson and his wife Nancy of Leesburg, FL, and Judy A. (Mosson) Smith of Westmoreland, KS; two grandchildren, Meagan and Jocelyn Smith of Westmoreland, KS.

Friends invited to attend his graveside service on Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 11:30 a.m. at the Tewksbury Cemetery, 172 East St., Tewksbury, MA. Cemetery service limited to 25 attendees. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there are No Calling Hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations honoring his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 300 5th Avenue, Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451. Or a charity of your choice.
