OBITUARY: Louisa “Chickie” Selig, 68

Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:

TEWKSBURY, MA — On Christmas Eve (her favorite holiday) at 12noon on the dot the incredibly resilient Louisa “Chickie” Selig, 68 of Tewksbury, formerly Somerville, went to be with the Lord after a several month long battle with sepsis. Loving wife of 44 years to Ronald of Tewksbury, perfect mother to the luckiest kids in the world; Samantha and Derek also of Tewksbury and sister in law to Warren Selig of Ridge Manor, FL and sister-in-law to Debby Selig of Wilmington, MA. She is preceded in death by her parents Leo and Dorothy Ciccolo and her in-laws, Warren and Eleanor Selig as well as her brother-in-law Richie of Wilmington, MA and her sister-in-law Roma Berry of Dundee, MI. Louisa is also survived by many friends and family all around the world.

Anyone who knew her just loved her – she was the kind of person that lit up every room she entered, talked to every person she encountered and not just learned their story but remembered them for years to come. She was sassy and hilarious – a true ray of sunshine. She made you feel special just for knowing her.

She had many jobs in her lifetime (first female slitter at BASF, insurance claims processor, admin at Salad House, dump truck driver, co-owner of Sassy Sparkles) but the one she treasured most was her role as a domestic engineer; caring for her parents, in-laws and children as well as so many “adopted” children for nearly 40 years. She loved rap music (especially Dr. Dre and DMX), Christmas cartoons, rides to the beach, Starbucks peppermint hot chocolate, trips to California and was happiest in her “Mom uniform” – black sweatshirt and black yoga pants – with her perfectly highlighted hair courtesy of the best hair dresser, Jen Johnson of Billerica.

Her family would like to extend the sincerest thank you to the wonderful people that cared for her over the last several months at Lahey Hospital in Burlington (including the outstanding nurses of 6East and 5Central ICU!), Fresenius Kidney Care Stoneham (including her friends Catherine, Lexi, Domenic and Sarah) and the entire amazing staff at AdviniaCare in Wilmington. You cared for our mom like she was your own and we will forever be grateful for that!

“Grief is like the ocean; it comes in waves, ebbing and flowing. Sometimes the water is calm, and sometimes it is overwhelming. All we can do is learn to swim.”

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Merrimack Valley Food Bank, 735 Broadway St., Lowell, MA 01854 – Louisa was a quintessential Sicilian mom and loved to feed people!

Socially distanced services will be hosted at Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62) in Wilmington, MA from 2pm-5pm on Wednesday December 30th. Masks required, casual dress a must (Louisa hated to dress up!).
