OBITUARY: Theodore R. “Ted” Wicks, 92

WILMINGTON, MA — Theodore R. “Ted” Wicks, age 92, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 21, 2020 in the home his father built.

Ted was born on March 5, 1928 in Wilmington, MA; he was the youngest son of the late Jacob and Bessie Wicks. Ted was raised in Wilmington, along with his 5 brothers and 6 sisters and graduated from Wilmington High School with the Class of 1947. Ted furthered his education at Bentley College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Accounting

Ted married Beth (McCall) of Winchester, MA in 1952. The couple settled in Wilmington, where they raised their five children: Ted, Peter, Kristine, Jennifer and Melinda. Ted and Beth lived in Wilmington until 1991 before they split their time between Hedding, a Methodist campground in Epping, NH and their Winter home in Clearwater, FL.

When first married Ted worked at the A&P market. Following his graduation from college, Ted went to work as a production manager for an electronics company. After that he moved onto Baybank (now Bank of America) as an Accountant until his retirement in 1991 Ted had a true passion for electronics. He could fix anything, including taking apart, fixing, and reassembling televisions. Ted was very athletic; playing tennis, baseball, softball and he was an avid golfer, even playing in a snow storm with a good friend using orange golf balls. He was always thrilled when the Red Sox won the World Series. Ted played ball on one of the many Wilmington recreational teams; he received a trophy for “The Oldest Player” of all the softball teams. Ted enjoyed getting together with his teammates and the friendships he formed along the way.

He could often be found “puttering around” and since he was so handy, he earned the title of “Mr. Fix-It.” Ted also enjoyed social gatherings; he belonged to the “Dance Party” at the Old Grange Hall. They also started the yearly Wilmington reunion in Florida.

Ted will be remembered for his love of his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father of Ted D. Wicks & his wife Laurel of Billerica, Peter Wicks & his wife Anna of Sandown, NH, Kristine Stone & her husband David of Wilmington, Jennifer Lamb & her husband John of Enfield, NH and Melinda Doherty & her husband Steve of Sturbridge, loving “Grampy” of Matt, Eric, Alexa Stone, Jami Stoll & her husband Brad, Shandra Wall & her husband Steve, Albee Wicks & his wife Kristan, Jason Blackburn & his wife Jamie, Matt Lamb & his wife Kristen, Kyle Wicks & his fiancé Kristin Haglund, Cassidy & Madison Doherty, “Great-Grampy” of Lily, Kira, Wyatt, Charlotte, Zoe, Killian, Avery, and Oliver. He is survived by his sisters; Louise Perkins, Vonnie Welch and Irene Saunders. Ted is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He will truly be missed by his family and friends.

Funeral Services for Ted will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ted’s name may be made to the Wilmington United Methodist Church, 87 Church Street, Wilmington, MA 01887 or to the Hedding HAA, @ 15 Sanborn Drive, Newfields, NH 03865. Please state the donation is in memory of Ted R. Wicks.
