WILMINGTON, MA — Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:
Catherine J. Warren, (Younie), “Cathie”, age 85, of Wilmington, passed away on October 23, 2020, with her loving family at her side.
Cathie was born on March 5, 1935, in Winthrop, MA; she was the cherished daughter of the late Edward and Beatrice Younie. Cathie was raised in East Boston, where she attended Catholic Schools and graduated from the Fitton High School. Cathie went on to further her education at Boston State Teacher’s College where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Education. She then accepted a teaching position in Everett.
Cathie married Joseph Warren in 1959; the couple settled in Wilmington, where they raised five children and became members of a “tight-knit” and friendly neighborhood.
Cathie was a very devoted and loving wife and mother; she made a warm and welcoming home for her family and their friends. She was an excellent seamstress who made clothes and Halloween costumes for her children. She also made beautiful bedding sets and window treatments for her home as decorating trends changed over the decades; she took pride in caring for her family. When Cathie became a “Grammie” her world became even brighter; she looked forward to watching her grandchildren, attending their events, seeing them grow up and always beaming as she spoke of their accomplishments.
Cathie and Joe, along with their family thoroughly enjoyed their annual two-week vacation for over 50 years at the Days Cottages in North Truro on Cape Cod. There she would unwind from the previous 50 weeks and always had a great time with friends and neighbors.
When Cathie first moved to Wilmington she went to work as a teacher at the Mildred Rogers School near Silver Lake. Cathie loved her students and treated them as her own. She was at the Glen Road School until she learned she was expecting their first child in 1960 then stayed home to raise her children until the late 1970’s when she returned as a paraprofessional at the West Intermediate School; her kindness and compassion towards her students throughout the years made a lasting impression in their lives.
After Cathie left her teaching position, she went to work for Itek Corporation where she was a Document Administrator for over 15 years.
Cathie was a woman of great faith and an active communicant of St. Thomas of Villanova Church in Wilmington for many years. She taught CCD to many Wilmington children and was later involved in helping with church events and becoming a Eucharistic Minister.
In her spare time, Cathie enjoyed reading, going out with friends and working a little “cottage” business making handmade tea cozies for a California based Spice Company in Truro, Ma. In her retirement she looked forward to spending time with her husband, family and friends; they loved to travel and enjoyed their many cruises.
Cathie was quite a lady; she worked hard, loved her family unconditionally and treated her friends as extended family. Cathie was always there to lend a hand or an ear to anyone in need; she touched many people throughout her life and she will forever be missed.
Catherine was the beloved wife of 61 years to the late Joseph F. Warren, devoted mother of Mark Warren & his wife Margaret of Medford, Kenneth Warren & his wife Cristina and Robert Warren & his wife Wendy all of Wilmington, David Warren & his companion Linda Topjian of Billerica and Christine Kelsall of Bedford, NH. Loving “Grammie” of Christopher, Kimberly & her husband Mike, Benjamin, Abigail, Joseph, Peter, Julia, Rachel, Frank, Casey, Elizabeth, Melissa & her companion Dylan, Daniel, Jessie, Nathan and great-grandchildren Annalise, Bryer and Philip “Pip”. Cherished daughter of the late Edward and Beatrice (Greene) Younie, dear sister of the late Dr. William Younie & his wife Anne of New Jersey.
Family and friends will gather for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, on Saturday, October 31st at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
