Coats For Kids Drive Is Back For Another Year — 1,000 Partners Wanted To Collect Coats

Below is a press release from Caring Partners, first reported in Wicked Local Wilmington:

WILMINGTON, MA — Caring Partners Inc. is holding a community drive to help thousands of adults, children and infants who will go without a warm winter coat this winter.

With COVID-19 stretching discretionary income thinner than ever before, Caring Partners is seeking 1,000 partners — businesses, nonprofits or even informal neighborhood/community groups — to continue the work of the organization and collect and distribute the 50,000 coats needed each year for Coats for Kids, New England’s largest coat drive.

To sign up, visit http://antons.com/cfk and click “register today”. Coats for Kids accepts warm winter coats that are gently used, good quality and all sizes, especially XL adults and infant/pre-K sizes. The drive does not accept coats with rips, tears, broken zippers or permanent stains, nor can the drive accept sweatshirts, vests and spring coats.

Sponsored by Anton’s Cleaners, Jordan’s Furniture and Enterprise Bank, the drive runs through Jan. 10, 2021. In 2018, the organization reached its goal of collecting and distributing 1 million coats since the program began in 1995.

“It goes without saying that this year has been challenging for all of us, but families in need are hit especially hard as cold weather hits and the kids need new winter coats,” said Arthur Anton Jr., chief operating officer of Anton’s Cleaners and founder of the program. “Everyone needs a warm winter coat, and Caring Partners mission is still to provide a coat to anyone who needs one. Once our legion of collection partners rise and meet the need by collecting the coats, Anton’s is proud to provide cleaning and sanitizing services and then makes sure these clean coats get to those who need them through our network of distribution partners. Working together, we can and will make this winter a bit warmer for babies, children and adults once again.”

To get started, an organization can appoint a Coats for Kids leader, who registers on the http://antons.com/cfk website. The leader uses the flyer and tools provided to spread the word and collect as many warm winter coats as possible. A drive can last a day, a week, a month or the entirety of the coat drive, but early coat drives are appreciated as the temperature drops quickly. Donations can be dropped off in bags at any of the 40 Anton’s Cleaners, six Jordan’s Furniture stores or 23 Enterprise Bank branches.

Coats are distributed through distribution partners made up of local nonprofit and social service agencies such as Massachusetts Community Action Programs, Salvation Army, Middlesex Human Service Agency, Women’s Lunch Place, BU Medical Center Outreach Van Project and others.
