Wilmington High Teacher Jennifer Fidler To Receive Distinguished Media Arts Educator Advocacy Award

WILMINGTON, MA — Jennifer Fidler, Wilmington High School Visual Arts and Media Arts Teacher, will receive the Distinguished Media Arts Educator Advocacy Award from ArtsILearning next month in a virtual ceremony.

ArtsILearning, a non-profit that promotes arts education in Massachusetts schools, is honoring Fidler for her (1) demonstrated leadership in advocating for arts education; (2) superior teaching in her discipline; and (3) creation of model arts programs and partnerships.

Below is the announcement from ArtsILearning:

Ms. Jennifer Fidler has been educating students of Wilmington High School in graphic design, media arts, animation, digital video, and other visual and media arts coursework for the past 18 years.

In 2011, she was appointed the K-12 Visual Arts Liaison for Wilmington Public Schools. Over the nine years she served in this role, Ms. Fidler reinstated the district’s annual student art show and served as a member and secretary for DESE’s Arts Education Advisory Council.

In 2015, she developed the model curriculum unit “Introduction To Digital Video Production’ as pat of DESE’s Race to the Top initiative.

In addition to her work with the AEAC, she has given several presentations for the Arts & Literacy events hosted by DESE and participated in the standards crosswalk workshops and arts integration series before taking on the role of co-faciliator of the Media Arts review panel as part of the MA Arts Curriculum Framework revision process.

Her arts advocacy work has also involved membership with several arts organizations, including ArtsILearning, the MAEA/NAEA, and AIGA. While she recently stepped down from several of these organizations to focus on her work as president for the Wilmington Teachers’ Association, she remains an ardent supporter for the arts and arts education across Massachusetts and beyond.
