OBITUARY: Carol A. Marino, 79

WILMINGTON, MA — Carol A. Marino, age 79 of Naples, FL, formerly a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side on September 29, 2020.

Carol was born in Quincy, MA, on July 31, 1941; she was the dear daughter of the late Alfred and Caroline (Govoni) Furtado. Carol was raised and educated in Lynn, MA and a graduate of Lynn English High School.

Carol married “her sweetheart” Robert “Bob” Marino on July 27, 1963; the couple moved to Wilmington shortly afterwards where they raised their family. Carol was a very devoted and loving wife and mother who was there to do anything for her family. She showered them and their friends with unconditional love and support.

In her younger years, Carol worked as a secretary for the General Electric Company for several years before becoming a mother. She dedicated herself to raising her family and when they were all in school, she returned to the business world as an administrative assistant for a Temp Company. Carol had an outgoing, friendly personality and she made many friends at work throughout the years.

In her spare time, Carol, enjoyed shopping, traveling with family and friends, socializing with her “Red Hat Ladies” Club and dancing with her husband Bob as members of the Wilmington Dance Club for many years. Carol’s favorite past time was to dote on her grandsons and great-granddaughter; they were the light of her life.

Carol and Bob retired to Naples, FL, where they enjoyed the sun and fun; they made many friends in their new community and had a lot of great times, but Carol always considered Wilmington “her home”.

Carol will be fondly remembered as a special and unique lady; she had an outgoing and vibrant personality; she was a lot of fun to be around. Carol went out of her way to make others feel welcomed and loved; she will be greatly missed by all.

Carol was the beloved wife of Robert A. Marino, devoted mother of Mark Marino of Naples, FL and Tina Marino of North Andover, MA. Loving “Nana” of David McNee, Jr., Devin McNee and great-granddaughter Audrina McNee. Dear sister of the late Alfred Furtado, Jr. Carol is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families as well as many dear friends and neighbors.

Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Sunday, October 4th from 2:00-5:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial for Carol will be held on Monday, October 5th at 12:00 noon in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Masks are required to be worn in the Funeral Home and Church.
