WILMINGTON, MA — On Friday, September 11, 2020, the Wilmington Department of Veterans Services hosted a solemn ceremony to remember the lives lost on that date 19 years ago.
Officials from Wilmington, Billerica, Andover and Tewksbury paid tribute to the victims and heroes of 9/11 on the Town Common in an hour-long ceremony that included brief remarks from Veterans Services Director Lou Cimaglia, Town Manager Jeff Hull, Police Chief Joe Desmond, Fire Chief Bill Cavanaugh, State Representative Dave Robertson, and Selectmen Chair Jonathan Eaton; remarks from officials from the other communities; readings of the names of those who were lost from the four towns; and a moment of silence at 8:46am when the first plane struck the North Tower.
