WILMINGTON, MA — Donald A. Ahern passed peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2020.
Don was born in Charlestown, MA to Arthur Ahern and Gertrude Murphy.
He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Korean conflict.
He was a member of the American Legion.
In 1969, Don joined the Wilmington,MA Fire Department and served as Firefighter and EMT for 27 years until his retirement. Don had many interests and hobbies. He loved music. He was an accomplished accordian player. Don loved to dance. He was called the “Silver Fox “
on the dance floor. He enjoyed reading, stone polishing, artifact collecting & playing chess.
He was a passionate metal detectorer and enjoyed walking the beach.
In 2005, Don and his wife, built a home and moved to Port St Lucie, Florida.
Don will be missed by his wife of 58 years, Maureen and their three children, Donald J of Port St Lucie, Kerry White of Townsend, MA, Erin Ahern of Chelmsford,MA ; his 5 grandchildren, Cody, Dalton,Chantal,Candace and Katrina ; his great grandchildren Christopher, Elijah and Isabella. Don was a devoted husband, father and grandfather (papa). His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. Don always had a smile for everyone.
Don will be missed by his “in law” family, Mort McGrath (Jean), Nuala Dacey (Bob) , Carolyn Laughlin and Marilyn Ahern and his many nieces and nephews.
Don was predeceased by his brother Arthur (Bud) Ahern.
Family and friends will gather for a Graveside Service with Military Honors at the Wildwood Cemetery, 233 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA on Thursday, September 10th at 1:00 p.m.
