WILMINGTON, MA — Below are 5 things to know in Wilmington on Thursday, August 13, 2020:
#1) Wilmington’s ‘On The Fence Players’ Presents ‘The Children’s Hour’ With Outdoor Performance
On The Fence Players, a Wilmington-based theatre company for Wilmington teens and young adults, will present a staged reading of Lillian Hellman’s “The Children’s Hour” on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at 6:30pm outside the Wilmington United Methodist Church (87 Church Street).
Bring a lawn chair, look for the six-feet-apart markers, and put on your mask! Viewing the performance will be free, but donations will be accepted for local non-profit theater. Produced and directed by Julia Burke, the performance is Rated PG-13 for some suggestive language and a simulated gun shot.
About “The Children’s Hour:” Dramatist Play Service credit’s Hellman’s “The Children’s Hour” as “One of the great successes of this distinguished writer… about two women who run a school for girls. After a malicious youngster starts a rumor about the two women, the rumor soon turns to scandal. As the young girl comes to understand the power she wields, she sticks by her story, which precipitates tragedy for the women. It is later discovered that the gossip was pure invention, but it is too late. Irreparable damage has been done.”
On The Fence Players was founded in 2014 by Wilmington’s Nikk Tetreault. This is the company’s 7th annual summer production.
