LETTER: Time To Reform Qualified Immunity For Police Officers

Dear Editor,

From 1836 to 1966, the Constitution served the country excellent on the issue of policing. Then in 1967, the Pierson v Ray decision created the doctrine of Qualified Immunity. The intent started out well but by 2005 it was being used for EVERY excessive and deadly force case. It is time for Congress and each State Legislature to either come up with a compromise or get rid of it entirely.
