Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:
WILMINGTON, MA — Lydia S. (Scurini) Bernard, age 65, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on July 12, 2020, following a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
Lydia was born on November 18, 1954 in East Cambridge, MA; she was the cherished daughter of June (Brisbois) Scurini and the late Stephen Scurini. Lydia was raised in Somerville and graduated from St. Joseph’s high school in Somerville.
After graduation, Lydia went to work for the Mass. Dept. of Public Health. She worked there for many years before taking a job as a Fulfillment Coordinator at Syneos/Adheris. Lydia loved her job and made many friends.
Lydia married Dennis Bernard on June 26th 1976. They moved to Wilmington, where they made their home. Lydia and Dennis loved to entertain their family and friends, often hosting barbecues, holidays, and special occasions. They also loved to spend time at their home in New Hampshire, where they enjoyed the outdoors. Lydia and Dennis made many wonderful memories before his passing in 2002.
Lydia’s family was most important to her; Lydia enjoyed her Sundays with the girls playing cards and having cocktails.
Lydia loved to travel, especially to Foxwoods with her “girls.” Recently, they were able to take a memorable trip to the Casino where they enjoyed a perfect day of fun and Lydia hit her big jackpot. Lydia was so happy to enjoy time with her family.
Lydia will be remembered as a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, niece and cousin to many. She was a strong fighter and she did not let her illness stop her from living her life and being part of some special family functions. Lydia will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Lydia was the beloved wife of the late Dennis Bernard, dear sister of Susan Cronin & her husband Patrick of Lowell, Stephen Scurini & his wife Rosemary of N. Andover and Ronald Scurini of Chelmsford, loving aunt of Stephen Scurini, III & his wife Jessica, Laura Stone & her husband Joshua, Caitlyn Cronin, Jack Scurini and Ryan Cronin, great-aunt of Zachary Scurini. Lydia is also survived by her special cousin and caregiver, Paula Baker, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
At the family’s request, Funeral Services for Lydia will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
