OBITUARY: George F. Pike, Jr., 75

Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:

WILMINGTON, MA — George F. Pike Jr., formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2020.

George was born on January 10, 1945, in Woburn, Massachusetts to his loving parents George and Emma and his big sister Dottie. At the time of his birth, he was deprived of oxygen and suffered severe Cerebral Palsy. As a little boy he was cared for at home by his mom and dad, and Dottie played with him all the time. As he grew, he needed more care than his family could give him at home, so he went to live at the Fernald School for the Disabled. His early years there were difficult ones, but George had a strong spirit and got through those tough times.

As times changed and conditions improved at Fernald, so did George’s life. He enjoyed daily activities, day trips and vacations. He loved listening to music and would often make wonderful sounds on the piano! He loved to watch sports on TV and was able to go to several sporting events. The staff even brought him to Disney World!

The last 10 years of George’s life were spent at a group home in North Chelmsford where he had wonderful care. Everyday he went to “work” at his day program in Lowell where he would enjoy activities, lunch, and see lots of friends. Dottie visited his home often, organized birthday parties, Super Bowl parties and World Cup festivities. Every year the staff hosted an annual Christmas party for the families to attend which were always enjoyable.

George was a happy guy and was loved by all who cared for him. Some referred to him as “Gentleman George”, as he really was a polite gentleman, but most everyone called him “Georgie”. The family would like to express their profound gratitude to the staff and caregivers of Georgie for their love, compassion and for never giving up on him. He loved his home and all those who cared for him.

Funeral services for George will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Nichols Funeral Home, Wilmington, MA.
