Dear Editor,
Personal protective equipment (PPE) waste is a big issue in Wilmington. During my walks and bike rides around town, my family and I have been noticing discarded PPE (masks, gloves etc.) on the sides of roads and even on town property like schools, playgrounds, etc. My family have even witnessed PPE being tossed out as cars have driven by us. We have no way of knowing if this PPE is potentially infected. I think that it is everyone’s responsibility to throw away their own PPE in trash receptacles and not use the sides of the roads as their trash bins. As a Scout, we pledge to be clean in our outdoor manners. I wish that others would be more careful and discard their PPE in their correct manner and take this into consideration the impact it has on our community’s beauty and resources needed by the town to pick this up.
Thank you!
