WILMINGTON, MA — At last week’s Wilmington Board of Selectmen Meeting, Town Manager Jeff Hull and Public Buildings Superintendent George Hooper provided an update on recent upgrades the town has made to the Buzzell Senior Center.
The project cost $31,330.94, of which $30,000 was covered by a state grant. The town has already been reimbursed $22,000 for the project, with additional reimbursements forthcoming.
Highlighted upgrades include:
- The kitchen’s flooring, cabinets, counters, sinks, and faucets were replaced. A folding table, which had served as the coffee station, was replaced with a counter and cabinet combination. Electrical outlets and switches were changed out and a new refrigerator was purchased.
- The main function room received a lighter coat of paint on the walls, new LED lighting, and a new finish to the floor.
- The entry ways to the game room and arts & crafts room were modified to comply with the American with Disabilities Act. The center posts were removed and replaced with French doors.
- The men’s and ladies’ restrooms were upgraded with replacement of partitions, painting of walls and ceilings, and new LED light fixtures.
“These improvements will not address the underlying limitations of the existing senior center and do not diminish the need for more space that is flexible to meet the evolving programmatic and social needs of Elderly Services,” noted Town Manager Jeff Hull in a memo to the Board. “However, for the immediate term, the work that was completed by personnel from the Public Buildings Department provides for a much more accommodating and inviting environment for members of our senior population seek to socialize, attend events and remain involved in the community.”
Hull and the Selectmen thanked Hooper and his crew for their work.
