WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Fire Department responded to a 2-alarm fire at 28 Gunderson Road on Saturday, June 27, 2020 around 5:30pm.
No one was injured in the fire. The 1.5-floor cape style house is considered a “total loss.”
“The fire was contained to room of origin,” said Fire Chief William Cavanaugh. “Significant smoke damage throughout the structure deemed it non-habitable.”
A GoFundMe campaign has been established for the homeowners — the Hurley family — to support them during this difficult time.
“As if living through a pandemic isn’t stressful enough, imagine trying to re-home your entire family, 4 children and a dog, while Massachusetts is shut down with very few accommodations or hotels to turn to,” reads the fundraiser’s page. “If you can, please contribute to this amazing family so they can rebuild and become even stronger than before!”
In the first 16 hours of the GoFundMe campaign, 376 people have donated nearly $41,000. Learn more about the fundraising efforts and donate HERE.
