Wilmington Flag Retirement Ceremony Cancelled; Minutemen Continue To Collect Tattered Flags Year-Round At Town Hall & Post Office

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Minutemen have cancelled its annual Flag Retirement Ceremony, traditionally held on Flag Day — June 14, 2020 — at Minutemen Headquarters, behind the Harnden Tavern (430 Salem Street).

Residents can still drop off tattered flags year-round in the marked boxes at the Wilmington Town Hall and the Wilmington Post Office.

“We look forward to our ceremony next year,” wrote organizer Frank West in the cancellation notice.

The Minutemen collect and properly retire 200-400 unserviceable flags every year. They’ve been hosting the flag retirement ceremony every year since 2002.
