I send this letter to remind you about the 2020 Annual Town Meeting, which has been recessed and continued to June 27, 2020, on the softball field at Wilmington High School, at 9:00 AM. It is our hope to start the meeting on time, and thus we will need a quorum. I humbly ask that if you plan on attending this year’s Annual Town Meeting, you arrive in such a time and manner that you are ready to take up the Town’s business at precisely at 9:00 AM. Please note that while our Annual Town Meeting typically starts at 10:30 AM, the decision was made to begin this year’s meeting at 9:00 AM in an attempt to avoid the mid-afternoon heat.
While it is undeniable that this year’s Annual Town Meeting will be very different than anything we have ever experienced, we will endeavor to ensure that the purest form of democracy is maintained while also recognizing the precautions needed to be taken in order to safeguard against the current public health crisis.
In order to provide the safest, most comfortable environment possible, the Town has procured a tent for the occasion and will be taking measures to maintain a temperate environment. We will have comfortably spaced and sanitized seating, no contact voter check-in, one way footpaths and other safety precautions in place as we strive to provide a safe environment for all attendees.
More information will be forthcoming in the days and weeks ahead, as we work to finalize our plans for this year’s Annual Town Meeting. Please be on the lookout for these materials.
Each resident needs to make the decision as to whether they are comfortable attending the meeting. While Town Meeting is exempt from the limits imposed on public gatherings, I am cognizant of the public health crisis we are dealing with, and will continue to monitor the same. I will take appropriate steps if it is deemed unsafe to hold the meeting, but as of the transmission of this letter we plan to move forward with the 2020 Annual Town Meeting and welcome all those residents wishing to attend. If you have any questions and/or concerns, please feel free to contact me at: email@example.com.
Be well, and be kind to one another.
