Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:
WILMINGTON, MA — James P. Duggan, known as “Big Jim” to his family and friends, age 77, of Tewksbury, formerly a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home on June 5, 2020, surrounded by his family.
Jim was born in Wilmington on October 4, 1942; he was the dear son of the late John “Mike” and Margaret Duggan and a member of the large Duggan brood of 14 siblings. Jim was raised and educated in Wilmington; a “true townie” throughout his life.
Jim married Beverly Watters on December 2, 1966; the couple shared over 50 years of marriage and raised three wonderful children, James, Denise and Timmy. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren who he loved to have fun with and push their buttons to get them riled up. Jim also looked forward to the times that they spent at their home in Ossipee, New Hampshire where everyone always had a great time and many wonderful memories were made.
Jim was a hard worker throughout his life; he along with his brothers started Silver Lake Forms which they ran for several years before he and his brother “Pee Wee” created JP Forms Company which they ran for over 20 years. Jim then got an opportunity to go and work for Union Local #88 in Boston and went to work in the tunnels for many years until his retirement.
Following retirement, Jim, could often be found working on his antique car or any kind of car for that matter. He enjoyed working on his heavy equipment and machinery to get them “running smooth”, he loved scrapping at the Farm in Wilmington, gardening but according to his family he did not have a green thumb. Though retired Jim was an essential part of Duggan Brothers daily operations and will be greatly missed by all.
Jim could be best described as a simple guy; he was hardworking and could fix just about anything, he enjoyed having a good time and was known to be a “character” and he loved his family with all his heart. Jim will be greatly missed and will forever be in the hearts of those who loved him.
Jim was the beloved husband of Beverly J. (Watters) Duggan, devoted father of James Duggan & his wife Carol of Tewksbury, Denise Carney & her husband Steve of Wilmington and Timmy Duggan & his fiancé Erin Kilbride of Tewksbury. Loving “Grampa” of Christine, Meghan, Kevin, Danny, Timmy, Maddie, Joey and Olivia. Dear son of the late John “Mike” and Margaret (Howes) Duggan, brother of Catherine Reinold, Mary Bammarito, William Duggan, Michael “Mickey” Duggan all of NH, Margaret Melvin of FL, Grace Carroll, Thomas Duggan both of Wilmington, Charles Duggan of Tewksbury and the late Henry “Hank” Duggan, John Duggan, Francis “PeeWee” Duggan, Eugene “Gene” Duggan and Joseph Duggan. Jim is also survived by several brothers and sisters-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews.
