Library Expands Electronic Collections & Virtual Programs; Phased Reopening & New Service Model In The Works

Below is a message from Wilmington Memorial Library Director Tina Stewart:

WILMINGTON, MA — Along with public libraries across the country, Wilmington Memorial Library is closed in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.  In keeping with Governor Baker’s Stay At Home Advisory, staff have been working remotely promoting and expanding our electronic services including downloadable ebooks, audiobooks, movies, music, etc.  as well as responding to patron’s requests for new library cards and assisting them with questions on using these resources.

Library staff are now offering a variety of virtual programs including storytime, book discussions, lectures and more.  The Youth Services staff is in the process of developing a virtual summer reading program and look forward to keeping kids reading all summer long with creative and innovative events and incentives. Given the social distancing requirements that are expected to be in place for the foreseeable future, all in house library programs have been cancelled as well as all outside summer events including the annual Town Wide Yard Sale, Big Trucks, and the Summer Bash.  To keep up to date on all library events and available resources, I encourage everyone to sign up for the library’s weekly email newsletter.  Check out all the above at www.wilmlibrary.org

The Library Administration is in the process of developing a phased reopening plan of library service based on guidelines from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. Going forward, this phased plan will need to be flexible as new information is forthcoming. Although having many patrons in the library attending programs, browsing, studying, using computers, etc is what we strive for, this temporary model of service requires us to do the opposite. Please know that the Wilmington Memorial Library will do its best to provide library services in the least restrictive way possible while ensuring the health of patrons and staff.  We look forward to the day when the library can return to full service. Until then, we appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate these challenging times.
