Wilmington Youth Soccer Cancels Spring Intown & Travel Seasons, Offers Refunds To Families

Below is an announcement from the Wilmington Youth Soccer Association:

Dear Wilmington Youth Soccer Association Members,

We hope this communication finds you and your families healthy and well.

First, we would like to acknowledge and thank all those health care workers, first responders, food service workers, delivery drivers, and members of the community who are on the front lines of this pandemic.

As we are navigating this uncertain and unprecedented time, we wanted to update you on our Spring 2020 soccer season.   Based on recent announcements from MA Governor Charlie Baker, social distancing advisories, the uncertainty of the lifting of the mass gathering restrictions, information from the medical community, and in consultation with Middlesex Youth Soccer League (MYSL), WYSA has voted to suspend all WYSA on-field programs until further notice.  This includes canceling the Spring 2020 Intown schedule, Spring 2020 Travel schedule, and Spring 2020 Player Development Programs (PDP).

WYSA will be refunding registration fees (excluding any late fees as this is an administrative cost) as listed below.  Please note these refunds will be mailed via check from our bank and will be processed within the next two weeks.

  • Intown Program will receive a 100% refund of the registration fee.
  • Travel Program Grade 3 to Grade 8 will receive a 50% refund of the registration fee (registration covered Fall 2019/Spring 2020), less $35 uniform fee.
  • Travel Program Grade 9 to Grade 12 will receive a 100% refund of the registration fee.
  • Spring PDP will receive a 100% refund of the registration fee.

While this decision is disappointing, the board of directors is planning for the Fall 2020 season.  This includes the Fall 2020/Spring 2021 travel season, Fall 2020 Intown season, and Fall PDPs.  We expect to open registration around the second week of June. We will also be announcing the Travel Fall 2020/Spring 2021 Coach’s application process shortly.

Once we have more information from the government, the medical community, and Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association about when it is safe to return to soccer activities, we will provide additional information.

Please continue to check our website and our social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) for updates and additional information.

Sincerely,

WYSA Board of Directors
