WILMINGTON, MA — At the Wilmington School Committee Meeting on Wednesday night, Superintendent Dr. Glenn Brand announced the two finalists in the West Intermediate Principal Search — Ms. Paula Jones and Mr. Edward Foster.
Ms. Paula Jones is currently the Principal of Highlands Elementary School in Danvers, where she has served since 2017. Prior to her work in Danvers, she was an instructional coach at the K-5 level with the Melrose Public Schools as well as a classroom teacher at the 1st and 2nd grade in Marblehead Public Schools.
While in Danvers, Jones has served as a leader of curriculum study groups who have worked extensively around curriculum mapping, and has been a member of the Professional Development Committee, the Site Based Management Team, and the Teacher Assistance Team. Jones is also committed to advancing the social and emotional well-being of her communities and holds certification in Safety Care training and has participated in professional development around Trauma Sensitive Schools.
Jones holds a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) degree from Salem Street University in Administration; a Master’s of Education (M.Ed.) from Salem State College, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Xavier University.
Mr. Edward Foster is currently the Principal of J.F. Sullivan Middle School in Lowell, where he has served since 2017. Additional leadership experience includes serving as Principal of the Sargeant Elementary School in North Andover (2011-2017) as well as the Principal of the Trahan Elementary School in Tewksbury.
Foster has served as a member of the leadership team on several subcommittees there bringing to life several initiatives in the areas of strategic planning, budget development, professional development, literacy, curriculum & instruction, supervision and evaluation, special education programs, and crisis management.
Foster holds a Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) from Boston University, a Master’s of Art Education from California State University, and a Bachelor of Arts from Curry College.
A third finalist recently withdrew from the search after taking a position in a different district.
Brand noted that parents and guardians at the West Intermediate, Shawsheen Elementary School, and Boutwell Early Childhood Center were invited to “meet” both candidates via Zoom tonight — Thursday, April 9, 2020 — from 4pm to 5:15pm. The meeting information has been sent to families.
Current Principal Dennis Shaw will be retiring at the end of the school year.
