WILMINGTON, MA — Rose Marie Buffa (Cornish), age 89, of Wilmington, MA, formerly of San Jose, California, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2020.
Rose Marie was born on November 6, 1930, in the Bronx, New York; she was the dear daughter of Perry Henery and Emma (Krumpholtz) Cornish. Rose was one of ten children raised during the depression.
While working at the lunch counter of a Woolworth’s in New York, Rose met (and later married) Emanuel (Manny) Buffa. Together they moved to San Jose, California where they had three children. Manny passed away and Rose took pride in the fact that she raised her children while being a “professional waitress”. She did study accounting and worked as an accountant in California, but missed interacting with her customers so she quit and returned to her career as a waitress. She loved interacting with people and was always doing things to help others without looking for recognition, she just did what she felt was right.
In 1989 Rose moved to Massachusetts to be near her daughter and grandchildren, becoming a resident of Wilmington MA in 1991 where she was heavily involved in her grandchildren’s activities. Rose became known by many as simply “Nana” and she loved it.
Her absence leaves a hole in the hearts of those who loved her, but she leaves behind lots of dear memories for us when we sit and remember in “peace and quiet”. She will be loved, always and forever.
Rose was the devoted mother of Carole Machado of California, Michael Buffa of Oregon, and Christina Marie (Augello) Buffa of Wilmington, MA. She was the loving grandmother of Matthew Morello of California, Alyssa Marie Augello of Tennessee, formerly of Wilmington, MA, Krysten Augello of Tennessee, formerly of Wilmington, MA, Francis Augello III of Wilmington, MA, Anthony Buffa of Oregon, Melissa Buffa of Oregon and Great-Grandchildren Blake, Kinser, and Mia Morello all of California, Natalie Rose Farley of Tennessee, and Mayleigh Buffa of Oregon. Dear sister of Joan (Cornish) Iannaco & her late husband Anthony, and Joyce (Cornish) Dibic & her late husband Walter of New York, the late Edna (Cornish) Conoto & her late husband Samuel, the late Harry Cornish & his late wife Helen (Zabski), the late William Cornish & his late wife Elizabeth (Uhl), the late Robert Cornish, the late Mildred (Cornish) Carbon & her late husband Courtny, the late Geraldine (Cornish) Kaiser & her late husband Rueben, the late Edward Cornish & his wife Helen (Lesnak). Rose is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Rose’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02454 or online through act.alz.org.
