WILMINGTON, MA — Several Wilmington churches have cancelled upcoming services.
St. Thomas & St. Dorothy’s Announcement — Services CANCELLED
In response to growing public concern and following Governor Baker’s Emergency Order prohibiting most gatherings of 250 or more people, Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley, OFM Cap, Archbishop of Boston, has made the decision effective immediately to temporarily suspend all daily and Sunday Masses and religious services in the Archdiocese of Boston until further notice.
All Masses and religious services in all Archdiocesan parishes, missions, and campus ministries are suspended until further notice. This begins at 4:00pm on Saturday afternoon, March 14. To be clear there are to be no vigil masses. Baptism, Confirmations, weddings and funerals may proceed but attendance should be limited to only immediate family.
The Cardinal has issued a dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass during this time to the Catholics of the Archdiocese of Boston.
St. Elizabeth’s Announcement — Services CANCELLED
After thought and prayer, we have decided to follow the example of several other parishes in the diocese and will not hold a service at church this Sunday. The vestry considered several factors including: the bishop’s most recent guidelines, the size of our space (we don’t have enough room for “social distancing” even if we were good at it), the strong possibility that there are already identified Covid-19 cases in Wilmington, and the percentage of our members who are in the higher risk categories. We are also cancelling our joint Lenten Program with St. Mark’s.
Like pretty much everything else these days, it’s impossible to predict when we’ll be able to gather as a full community in person again, but we are going to explore ways to stay connected. In the meantime, I am available to visit on a case by case basis and the link below is for information about churches in the diocese that are live streaming their services. I hope to have more information for us about “virtual church” possibilities soon.

Grace Chapel’s Board of Elders and Executive Leadership Team have spent many hours in the last few days in prayer, discussion, and consultation with medical professionals and infectious disease experts on our best possible response to the current coronavirus outbreak.
With the health and safety of both our congregation and our local communities in mind, our Elders have affirmed a plan created by our staff to move to an online-only ministry model effective immediately, and continuing for the foreseeable future.
