BREAKING: Wilmington Public Schools To Close For 2 Weeks, March 16 To March 27

Below is a letter from Wilmington School Superintendent Dr. Glenn Brand:

Dear Members of the Wilmington Community,

As you are aware, there continues to be considerable discussions and developments regarding the ongoing situation related to the Coronavirus. School districts are considering efforts to try and maintain the health and well-being of students and staff and mitigate the possibility of community spread.

Following careful consideration, and through consultation with local officials and surrounding superintendents, I have decided to close all schools in the district for a minimum of two weeks starting on Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 27. Please see HERE for a press release with additional information from area superintendents

This clearly represents unprecedented times and creates a challenging situation for everyone. It is understood that this decision will impose a hardship on families that do not have childcare options. However, please know that the decision to close our schools is being taken very seriously in order to exercise an abundance of caution for our Wilmington community.

We recognize that there are a number of things to address, and further information to provide for both our parents/guardians and staff. My leadership team will be meeting first thing next week to address the next steps including such things as how to pick up personal belongings. Please watch for additional information forthcoming early next week. Please note however that schools will not be open to either staff or the public until further notice.

If you have a pressing need to pick-up any medications for your child please contact Ms. Doreen Crowe, Coordinator of Nursing Services at

Thank you for your support and understanding.

Glenn Brand

Superintendent of Schools
