WILMINGTON, MA — Below are 5 things to know in Wilmington on Thursday, March 12, 2020:
#1) Wilmington Public Schools Is CLOSED
Late Wednesday night, School Superintendent Dr. Glenn Brand announced that Wilmington Public Schools will be CLOSED on Thursday after a Wilmington parent is symptomatic and being tested for COVID-19. All schools will be undergoing a deep cleaning and are expected to re-open on Friday.
#2) Wilmington Library Local History Program CANCELLED
The Wilmington Memorial Library’s special local history program (“Planes, Trains & Automobiles”) on what transportation was like in Wilmington and Tewksbury in the 19th and 20th centuries scheduled for 7pm has been CANCELLED out of an abundance of caution based on the recommendation of the Wilmington Health Department.
#3) Wilmington Recreation Commission Meeting
The Wilmington Recreation Commission meets at 5:30pm in Town Hall’s Room 9. Contact the Recreation Department at 978-658-4270 in advance of meeting to confirm there’s been no postponement. Read the agenda HERE.
#4) DEADLINE: Wilmington Recreation’s T-Ball
“The Rookies” T-Ball League open registration period ends on Thursday, March 12, 2020. Children that are 5 years old (by 4/30/2020) through 1st grade are eligible to register for their first introduction to the sport of baseball. This co-ed program will begin with players hitting off of a tee (Spring Training!) for the first 2 weeks and progresses into coaches pitching. Teams will receive one 45-minute practice and one 60-minute game each week for 6 weeks, April 27 – June 4. Parents may choose from a Mon./Wed. or a Tue./Thur. schedule. #5) Tour Of Wilmington Town Museum
The Town Museum (430 Salem Street) is open from 10am to 2pm. Contact the Museum at 978-658-5475 prior to arrival to confirm opening. Come explore Wilmington’s history. Free admission.
