WILMINGTON, MA — Two weeks before the filing deadline and it appears Wilmington may have a quiet 2020 Town Election season. There are currently no contested races. In fact, there are more seats to be filled (5) than candidates (3) across the respective races.
After 9 residents pulled nomination papers last year to run for Selectmen, only one — incumbent Jomarie O’Mahony — has done so this year. And that’s even after longtime Selectman Mike McCoy announced on February 10, 2020 that he would not be seeking re-election.
2 Selectmen Seats Up
Selectwoman Jomarie O’Mahony, who was elected to the board last year to serve out the remainder of former Selectman Ed Loud’s term, has announced her intention to seek re-election by pulling papers.
30-year Selectman Mike McCoy, on the other hand, surprised many by recently announcing he would not be seeking re-election.
No challengers have stepped forward.
2 School Committee Seats Up
On the School Committee side, both School Committee Chair Jennifer Bryson, first elected in 2017, and Vice Chair Steve Bjork, first elected in 2014, have pulled papers.
No challengers have stepped forward.
1 Housing Authority Seat Up
Leonard Bombard, a longtime member of the Wilmington Housing Authority, has yet to pull nomination papers. No one else has expressed an interest in the seat.
