WCTV NEWS & NOTES: WCTV Records Athletic Director Community Forums, Holds Food Drive

The below announcement was submitted by Shaun Neville, Executive Director of Wilmington Community Television (WCTV):

WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington’s generosity was on display again this past weekend during the WCTV Donations from the Heart Food Drive.

Members of our youth program handed out flyers and collected donations at Market Basket for four hours on Saturday. They filled more than a dozen carriages with food, all of it headed to the Wilmington Food Pantry for your neighbors in need.

This is an annual event for WCTV, timed right around Valentine’s Day. The outpouring of support is always great to see. Special thanks to the members of our Saturday Youth Program who came out and helped.

Applications are now being accepted for the WCTV Scholarship. Scholarships are awarded to any graduating student who lives in Wilmington and is planning on attending college next fall. You do not need to be a Wilmington High School student to be eligible. Over the past few years, students from Shawsheen Tech and private schools have received a scholarship.

Funds are set aside each year as part of WCTV’s Operational Budget. The Board of Directors Scholarship Committee selects the winners. Students are eligible for awards up to $1,500.

While not a requirement of the application, special consideration is given to students pursuing a communications, graphic design, public relations or journalism. Students who have had experience with WCTV are also strongly encouraged to apply.

The deadline to apply is May 1. Recipients will be notified towards the end of the school year. Head to wctv.org/scholarship to learn more or to apply.

Wilmington Public Schools are seeking a new athletic director and WCTV was able to record last week’s community forums held with the three finalists.

These sessions lasted about 30 minutes each and included questions from students, parents and athletic supporters.

You can watch those events at wctv.org/vod. After an athletic director is chosen, it might be good to revisit their event to learn more about their background and goals for high school athletes.

This is another example of how WCTV works with the School Department on media needs and community involvement.
