SCHOOL COMMITTEE NEWS: Hearing On 2020-2021 Budget To Be Held On Feb. 12, Parents Encouraged To Attend

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington School Committee meets this Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 7pm in the Large Instruction Room at Wilmington High School.

There are some newsworthy items on the agenda, including:

  • The School Committee will hold its Annual Budget Hearing at the start of the meeting. Parents and community members are encouraged to listen to the presentation and offer any comments or ask questions. Following the hearing, the School Committee vote to formally support the budget.
  • Superintendent Brand will provide an update on the Athletic Director search.
  • Brand will provide an update on the West Intermediate School’s Principal Search.
  • Brand will provide updates on the interim Assistant Principals at the Shawsheen Elementary School and Woburn Street School.
  • Brand will provide an update on the cafeteria/food service contract negotiations.
  • The School Committee will discuss the Superintendent Evaluation Process with a representative from the Massachusetts Association of School Committees.
  • Brand will provide the Committee with a copy of the district’s 2019 Annual Report.
  • The School Committee will consider approving the FY21 school calendar, which includes additional early dismissals than previous years.
  • WHS Principal Linda Peters will present her school’s program of studies.
  • The School Committee will continue to methodically update its policy manual.
  • The School Committee will consider a field trip request for Shawsheen 3rd graders to Odiorne Point in Rye, NH.

The School Committee will also hear from its High School and Middle School student representatives, any subcommittee reports and public comments.

The meeting will be telecast live by Wilmington Community Television on WCTV — Channel 9 on Comcast and Channel 37 on Verizon.  The meeting will also be streamed on WCTV’s website HERE.
